The brand new Oakdene Cellar Door is open every day from 10am-4pm for tastings, tours and sales. 

Following an extensive design and build process, the new building currently known as “the upside-down house”, offers visitors to the Bellarine Peninsula a unique tasting room to experience.

Designed by owner Elizabeth Hooley, the cellar door appears to be an A frame timber house that has been blown over in the wind, with the roof line on the ground and timber stumps exposed. Recycled and re claimed timbers feature extensively throughout the interior, coupled with contemporary design and facilities to complete a spectacular and very functional tasting room capable for catering for both small and larger groups, located a short walk from Oakdene Restaurant.

Our cellar door is manned by a small team of Bellarine Peninsula locals who, over the years, have developed an intimate understanding of our region and a deep knowledge of our wines. The team are always  keen to talk you through our range, show you around the property or help you decide which wines to take home with you.

The Oakdene vineyard was established in 2001, with block one planted to 3.5 acres of Shiraz, 4 acres of Pinot Noir and 3 acres of Chardonnay. Block two followed with 5 acres of Sauvignon Blanc, and an additional 3.5 acres of Shiraz in 2002. In 2008 block three was planted with 5 acres of Pinot Gris, and a Bordeaux blend trial vineyard planted to 1.5 acres of Merlot, 1 acre of Cabernet Sauvignon, and 0.5 acres of Cabernet Franc. We crushed a little more fruit from this new planting in 2012 and have released of our second vintage of Pinot Grigio, and our first red blend (from 2011) in late 2012. 

From the beginning the aim was to produce ready to drink quality wines that will improve over time. The second consideration was that the wines should be elegant to match the modern Australian cuisine.

The dedication to excellence in the vineyard and careful management in the winery produced immediate results with our first vintage (2005) Pinot Noir and Shiraz being awarded medals at the 2006 Geelong Wine Show. The following year the 2006 Elizabeth Chardonnay was awarded wine of show. 2009 was a successful year for the 2007 Shiraz, awarded Gold in the Royal Melbourne, Victorian wine shows, culminating in trophies for Best Shiraz, Best Red Wine and Wine of Show at the FACCI Concours Du Vin 2009.

Oakdene wines are available to sample and purchase daily from our cellar door. Our wines are also available in selected Restaurants and Fine Wine Merchants.
 
Oakdene wines are made in small quantities, from excellent quality fruit, produced in low yields using meticulous vine management and crafted by proven winemakers. The wines are elegant, complex and reflect the true varietal character of our region.
